VSI’s new product, color TARGO™

Drew’s Blog on TARGO

If you’ve read my previous blog on StrikeEye/F-35 GEN II, you know that VSI continues to advance capabilities in helmet-mounted display systems that were previously unavailable to fighter pilots. Over the years, VSI innovations, such as our next-generation night vision camera, have resulted in more than 5,500 helmet mounted displays in operation in 24 countries.  Today, I want to discuss a new VSI product, color TARGO™.

Created by Elbit Systems (one of VSI’s parent companies; Rockwell Collins being the other), TARGO™ has it all, and is a true game changer.  In addition to color-capable, the HMDS’ modular design accommodates night vision, and features proven and safe visor projected monocular imagery to the right eye; full-motion video and data display; unobstructed 20° field of view for excellent situational awareness; a robust opto-inertial tracker requiring no cockpit mapping and an extreme large head-motion box.  TARGO™ also includes integrated line of sight cueing; an integrated debrief camera; and low power consumption. It is lightweight and ejection-qualified (proven at airspeeds up to 600 knots). Technically superior to any HMDS in its class, TARGO™ can be integrated quickly and cost efficiently into any aircraft and has very low life cycle cost.

Such features and capabilities explain the recent decision by the Italian Air Force to purchase TARGO™ aboard for its Aermacchi M-346. Innovations in design and technology are at the heart of what makes VSI the world leader in helmet displays.
